Step 3: Creating a Pocket
A pocket beneath the skin is created, separating the forehead skin from the underlying muscles. This releases the skin so that it can be tightened which elevates the brow. The pocket is created over the outer brow, lateral hooding, and crow's feet so that these areas are specifically affected. When creating the pocket, the muscle and nerves are left uninterrupted. Because the separation is performed on top of the muscle, the nerves that allow you to lift your eyebrows are not injured by the mini-browlift technique.
Mini-browlift compared to traditional coronal browlift or endoscopic browlift:
A coronal browlift technique makes an incision from the top of one ear to the top of the other ear and elevates the entire forhead off of the bone. This separation is performed beneath the muscle. There is definite sensory loss from this technique with numbness of the scalp behind the scar and a higher risk of possible motor nerve injury causing brow paralysis. The endoscopic browlift, using special instruments through several small incisions, also separates the forehead off of the bone beneath the muscles, creating a pocket beneath the entire forehead.
