Step 4: Elevating the Brow

Diagram of Brow Lift SurgeryThe skin is elevated, delicately and precisely, to an attractive level, so that the outer brow is lifted and the lateral hooding is reduced. The skin is overlapped at the hairline and the degree of brow elevation is assessed. This technique specifically lifts the outer brow without causing an unwanted rise of the inner brow which can cause a surprised or fake appearance.

Mini-browlift compared to traditional coronal browlift or endoscopic browlift:

During a coronal browlift, after the entire forehead is "peeled" off of the bone, it is repositioned at a higher level. A full-thickness strip of scalp is removed, and the gap is sewn together in layers. In an endoscopic browlift, the forehead is separated from the bone through small incisions and reset at a higher level using screws or other fixation devices. No tissue is overlapped and excised during this procedure. There are two common criticisms of the endoscopic technique. First, because the forehead is elevated as one unit, it is unavoidable to lift the inner brow and possibly create a surprised expression. Secondly, because the brow is repositioned without removal of tissue, the results are often less long-lasting than an excisional procedure.
