Step 9: Placing Fine Sutures
Once the excess, overlapping skin is trimmed, fine sutures are delicately placed to hold a Colorado facelift patient's two skin edges together. The placement of this suture line is precisely the location of the original incision and ultimately the position of the scar.
Mini-facelift compared to traditional facelift:
The suture line and final scar location in a traditional facelift extend behind the ear into the hair and above the sideburn into the hair as well. The scar behind the ear into the hair may be noticeable either in people with a short hair style or when longer hair is pulled back. The scar location above the sideburn within the temporal hair-bearing scalp can be visible when the head is wet. More concerning is the upward movement of the sideburn and hairline caused by the removal of hair-bearing skin. This leaves a bald area where the sideburn belongs creating an aged, operated, and often bizarre appearance. During the mini-facelift technique, the incision is placed at the hairline which entirely avoids this problem.
